Kitty Hawk, best known for the Wright Brothers flight back in 1903, has some secrets. You can drive by the site where the Wright Brothers stayed or go to the Black Pelican Restaurant and see the spot where they sent the telegraph exclaiming their success, but take some of the roads that wind through the Village of Kitty Hawk or drive through some of the streets that offer a variety of views and life styles.
Let's start with the obvious, however. Kitty Hawk is divided into 3 geographical sections. There's the ocean front properties that show the way beach vacationing used to be. Tiny cottages that have lost most of their beach frontage over the years still stand waiting for their next test. Next, what we call "between the Highways" because this area is between NC 12 (also known as Beach Road and Virginia Dare Trail) and Highway 158 (the bypass and Croatan Highway). We have so few main roads here that we feel the need to give each several names! This area is filled mostly with vacation rental homes and provides an easy walk to the beach. The west side of Kitty Hawk is diverse. While there are many small streets and neighborhoods to consider, the larger areas provide plenty. Seascape offers golf course and ocean views to many of the homes. Further south down the bypass, you may want to check out First Flight Ridge or Kitty Dune Heights. Ready for a little adventure? Turn west on Kitty Hawk Road and take the drive back through the Village. Take one of the many streets to see the homes people lived in 50+ years ago ... and still do. You might want to go down Bob Perry Road to enjoy the natural area where boats can access the sound. Take a picnic. Further west on Kitty Hawk Road near the old cemetary, you may see Kitty Hawk Landing, a great neighborhood with deep water canals for boaters and others who simply like living on the water. Part of Kitty Hawk that can be easily missed is Martins Point. This gated neighborhood is on your left as you come across the Wright Memorial Bridge to the beach. Considered one of the Outer Banks' premier year round or second home neighborhoods, this area offers sound front, Ginguite Creek front and interior homes. There's much more to see in Kitty Hawk. Enjoy the public beaches or try one of the great restuarants. Come for a visit or come to stay. For additional information, please feel free to contact us.
