In Southern Shores variety is truly the speice of life. This town offers something for everyone. No matter what your preference, you'll find it in Southern Shores. Though simply considered as east side or west side on NC 12, each area is unique.

Beginning on the east side there are the ocean front homes lining Ocean Boulevard. Slightly further north on Ocean Boulevard the road forks into Duck Road (taking you to Duck). The area between Ocean Boulevard and Duck Road has that quaint, old style of beach living far removed from commercial endeavors. Tucked away from the hussle and bustle of hurried drivers hunting for their destination. To the immediate north of this hide-away is the little neighborhood of Sea Crest Village. Older homes on the ocean side with laid back living and an easy walk to the beach.

Moving to the west side of NC 12 (Duck Road) a variety of neighborhoods can be found. This "east side of the west side" offers both rental income potential, second home or year round living. Here you find a mix of traditional style homes and the ever popular "beach box" sytles. The south end of this "east side of the west side" is called Chicahauk which offers the sandy beach yards and winding streets fro relaxed living.

Crossing over the dune to the "west side of the west side" you will find many tree lined streets that wind through beautiful year round or second home neighborhoods. Many of the homes back up to canals that wind throguh the area eventually leading to the Currituck Sound. If you are interested in boating this may be an area to consider.

Though Southern Shores ranks high for its quiet residential living, it is convenient to shopping and all other amenities on the Outer Banks. A short drive takes you to grocery stores, restaurants, shops for the women and Home Depot for the men.
